I’m done with that

So, of course I wound up watching the second ep of “Megan Wants a Millionaire,” and almost immediately wished I hadn’t. Unlike the sensitive-but-amusing rocker dudes on “Daisy of Love,” these guys are just sad, sad, sad. Unlike the highly emotional, cosmetically over-enhanced Daisy, Megan is just bland.

A highlight:  a ridiculous, crotch-grabbing rap titled “Love Mode” performed by obnoxious, crazy-eyed Garth as a gift to Megan:
She didn’t love it; he got insulted and called his friend Dick Squiggles (seriously; how Dickensian!) to come pick him up. Alas, we never got to see Dick — probably a blessing — because Megan intimidated Garth into staying, only to cut him later at elimination. That’s the kind of gal she is. Oh, there was also a cringe-inducing number performed by stripper-millionaire Punisher. The less said about that, the better.

The absolute nadir: Trust-fund baby Joe, who is clearly gay, asexual or just not used to being around girls, proves his virility by assaulting Megan with a huge, horrible, open-mouthed “kiss” at elimination.
Megan Wants a Millionaire - Episode 2
Don’t know which is worse: the kiss itself or that fact that Megan, looking unruffled, decided to keep him. I do know that I shall no longer tune in to this particular show.

As a palate-cleanser, I then viewed a dvd of the 1979 Merchant-Ivory Henry James adaptation “The Europeans,” which sounds like a joke, but I swear isn’t. This is a typical evening for me. Anyway, while somewhat dry and much less engaging than several later efforts by this team (“Room with a View,” “Maurice,” “Howards End,” “Remains of the Day”), it was beautifully shot and did the trick, mood-wise. I no longer felt dirty.

But, mood-swing again!, it was then time for the season finale of “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List.” I know I shouldn’t still love Kathy, but I do. Most of the time.  In this ep, she gets a star on the Palm Springs (not Hollywood) Walk of Fame. Guest stars were Suzanne Somers, Barry Manilow and Carol Channing, all of whom were fabulous. It was a wonderful ending to a pretty fun season and I was grateful that Kathy didn’t make too many references to her nether regions. It was becoming a tiresome theme.
